What does Evidence Lock actually do?

Evidence Lock prevents a clip from being auto-deleted by the retention policy. When you lock a clip, Visylix marks it as "held" so the nightly retention job skips it even when it is older than the configured retention window. On Pro and above, locking also computes a SHA-256 hash of the clip bytes and writes it to the clip metadata. Any later modification changes the hash, proving tampering. The hash, plus every subsequent access, forms a chain-of-custody trail visible in the admin audit log.

What is the difference between Starter and Pro evidence features?

Starter gets basic Evidence Lock, a clip marked locked cannot be auto-deleted. Pro adds SHA-256 chain-of-custody (hash computed at lock time and verified on every access), time-limited external share links, visible watermark on shared clips, and the ability to designate multiple recipients with custom per-recipient expiry. Enterprise adds programmatic API access for case-management integrations and court-export bundles that ship with the full audit log packaged alongside the clip.

How do external share links work?

An operator generates a share link for a locked clip. The link carries a short-lived, cryptographically-signed token. The recipient opens the link, no Visylix account required, and can view or download the clip until the token expires. Every access is logged with timestamp, source IP, user agent, and referrer. Starter tier supports one recipient per share. Pro supports multiple named recipients with per-recipient expiry and per-recipient access logs. All shared playback carries a visible watermark with the case ID and recipient name.

Is Visylix evidence court-admissible?

The SHA-256 hash and the signed audit log together provide the chain-of-custody documentation that most jurisdictions require for video evidence. Visylix produces court-export bundles that include the clip, the hash, the audit log, metadata about the capturing camera (make, model, firmware, RTSP URL, location), and a human-readable timeline of custody events. Admissibility is ultimately determined by the court and jurisdiction, but Visylix provides the technical artifacts prosecutors and defense attorneys will ask for.

Can I revoke a share link after it has been sent?

Yes. Every share link can be revoked at any time from the admin console. Revocation instantaneously invalidates the token, blocks further access, and writes a revocation event into the audit log. You can also see live access stats per share (views, downloads, last access) and choose to extend or shorten the expiry without generating a new link.

Does Visylix support GDPR right-to-delete for evidence?

Yes. GDPR right-to-delete workflow (Scale and Enterprise tiers) allows operators to honor deletion requests while preserving hash records and audit trails for legal compliance. Deleted content is cryptographically shredded, but the hash and audit proof of prior existence remain so chain-of-custody is never broken.
